Prerna Book Bank - Amita Sharma run “Prerna Book Bank” nisylk kitab ghar for all. All the work is achieved through society’s support. prerna Book Bank Run by mastermind educational society (reg. Under society act 1860) Mrs. Amita belongs to a rural area (small town).  Amita belong to Normal family and knows about the importance of books for study. Amita and the other girls used to walk more than 2 km to reach school, so many poor children used to watch our bags which are full of books with their hopeless eyes. At that time she couldn’t do anything for them but she could feel their pain, that pain gave her a very wonderful concept of books.                                               in 2013 Amita start providing books to needy students and in April 2016  starts the Prerna book bank (nisulk kitab ghar ) . This Kitab ghar provides books to poor students who are not able to afford educational books to study.  AMITA and SANJAY  went from one school to another, to encourage the students to donate the book bank their unused books which they have no longer use and after that, we went from village to village to discuss the concept of “Prerna Book Bank”. Some people agreed to give space in their homes for the library and the lead was succeeded. Prerna Book Bank has a team of “several women and young boys and girls and Senior citizens” also as volunteers who would help us to set up KITAB GHAR. Smt. Pooja Sharma is working as President of Self Help Group “Kshitiz” and lives in Chandu village of Gurugram district of Haryana. The location of the village where she lives is very much in contact with the Gurugram city (known as “Millennium city”) and has seen a steep rise in income of the farmers because of the increasing rate of the land, which has impacted their way of living but not their mind set. The women of Haryana villages are still fighting for their own identity. Smt. Pooja Sharma took initiative in bringing the women of village Chandu together who wanted to make their own earning and find their own identity in the society. She convinced them to form a self help group and start an enterprise. The group then approached KVK, Gurugram for guidance and got hands-on training in the preparation of soynut (IARI technology) and started their enterprise with this single product. Soybean which is a highly proteinious food (with 40 % protein) also contains trypsin inhibitor that inhibits the activity of trypsin (protein digesting enzyme) and thus adversely affects the digestion of protein in the body. PUSA soynut is processed in a way so as to reduce the trypsin inhibitor up to 90 per cent. Smt. Pooja Sharma after understanding the idea adopted the IARI technology of making soynut and started their (SHG’s) enterprise with this product. Initially, they marketed their product in schools, gyms and directly to customers through various fairs organized at National as well as State level. During 2014, she earned a net annual profit of Rs. 15,000.00 from the sale of soynut only. Later on, she added other products like processed soy and pearl-millet flour, pearl-millet dalia, maize dalia and flour, nutritious soy health drink, pearl-millet biscuits and other savory snacks from soybean and pearl-millet. In the year 2015, this profit increased many times with a net profit of Rs. 70 to 80 thousand annually. While marketing soynut, they always try to get customer feedback to make any improvements in their product, if needed. The soynut product was widely accepted among children, teenagers and adult men and women, however the old age population found it difficult in chewing because of weak or loss of teeth. She prepared the soynut powder for this age group, which gave her a new idea to prepare nutritious soy health powder for children. She added some powdered sugar and chocolate powder to this soynut powder and prepared “bournvita” or “horlicks” type powdered mixture to add in milk and named it as “Soy health powder”. The product is being very much liked by children of all age groups. In the year 2017, the group was further supported by Krishi Vigyan Kendra by providing them food processing equipments and utensils under ARYA project to further raise their processing capacity which resulted in raising their profit to Rs. 2 lakhs in the year 2017. Seeing the enthusiasm and success of Smt. Pooja Sharma and her Self Help Group “Kshitiz”, the NGO “Access Development took initiative for strengthening her entrepreneurial capacity by giving the SHG members hands-on training in bakery and expanding the range of products prepared by them. The NGO “Access Development” provided them one bakery oven, cooking range, packing machines etc. One chef was appointed to give them hands-on training in preparing bread, pizza and variety of healthy and nutritious cookies. The group started a company named “ZingnZest” in March, 2018 in which Smt. Pooja Sharma has been given the position of Coordinator. For marketing of their products, the company approached food chain stores and Government offices for regular sale throughout the year. The company has achieved success in this direction also and till date their biscuits have got place in top hospitality chains and stores like Annamaya Food Court in Aerocity, Delhi, 24X7, Reliance and Lamarsh stores in Delhi and NCR areas. The improved marketing strategy of the company has increased the volume of sale many times and has led to an income of Rs. 7-8 lakhs in the year 2019. The Haryana Government has also accepted their request of supplying their snacks during official meetings of State department at Gurugram. HAFED (Haryana State Co-op Supply & Marketing Federation Ltd.) has also placed orders for cookies, savory snacks and ladoos from the Kshitiz SHG. Although she faced various obstacles and opposition by the society while joining hands with the NGO, but her strong determination to become independent and support other needy woman of the village to earn a living could not stop her. Soybean is a rich source of best quality plant protein available at low cost. It contains almost double the quantity of protein compared to pulses and average productivity is also double the pulses. Thus, four times protein is available per hectare from soybean compared to other pulses. Population living below poverty line is facing the problem of protein-calorie malnutrition. Their problem of malnutrition can be taken care of by making high protein soy products available at affordable prices. Also soy based food extends health benefit for diabetics, cancer and heart patients. The only drawback with soybean is that it contains some antinutrients which need to be eliminated through proper processing. Smt. Pooja Sharma is taking care of all these factors and launching the new products after proper training and gaining proper scientific knowledge about the products and their processing. She also focus on the use of coarse millets like sorghum, pearl-millet, finger-millet, oat and other healthy food items like flax seed, ajwain, desi khand instead of chemically treated sugar while making cookies which are much healthier as compared to the maida cookies available in market. She has become the synonym of pure and quality products in Gurgaon and nearby areas. She is also playing a great role in improving the health and nutrition of the population as she is marketing the products which are not only nutritious but also processed in a way so as to provide the maximum nutrients to the consumers. Smt. Pooja Sharma started earning and contributed to her family income which has raised the status of her family in the village. The earning of the SHG has increased the lending capacity of the group to its members and thus enhanced the micro-credit system among the community. Social taboos like women should not come in front of men and should not go out to attend meetings was overcome, which resulted in women empowerment. Observing the interest of Smt. Pooja Sharma, State Government has supported her to put her stall in SARAS mela (Gurgaon), Pragati Maidan (Delhi), Surajkund Mela (Faridabad) etc. which helped her in direct marketing and publicity of her products. Pooja Sharma, who has started with single Self Help group has now formed nine Women Self Help Groups with 150 village women, where they can avail financial assistance. Smt. Pooja Sharma has been recognized and appreciated by Hon’ble Governor of Haryana, Sh. Captan Singh Solanki in 2015, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana, Sh. Manohar Lal Khattar in 2015 and Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Agriculture, Sh. Radha Mohan Singh in 2016 which has created impact on other women also to create their own identity in the society.
